Da Peerie Hoose is an accessible, self catering, studio cottage. There’s a cabin-like feel, using repurposed materials and furnished with as many natural products as possible.

It’s an intimate “Tiny House”, 30 square metres, suitable for individual guests or couples. Max 2 guests. The lovely stained glass window casts Shetland morning light into the property. There’s one step into the cottage and the accommodation is all on one level.

Burnt wood feature flooring runs throughout the studio style living space - from the simple, bespoke kitchen, past the comfy lounging area, through to the cozy small-double bed. Our unique stone shower room was created from a dry stone wall we found tucked behind the old plasterboard during the reburbishment, underfloor heating warms the stone. Towels, bathrobes and cotton bed linen are all provided.

The mid house multi fuel stove heats the whole space. It’s cosy, yet the vaulted ceiling and exposed beams give an airy feel. It’s a peaceful place to unwind and relax. A welcome pack of local produce and handmade local toiletries are supplied, ensuring our guests are comfortable regardless of their time of arrival.

Situated between the villages of Hoswick and Sandwick in the south mainland of Shetland, you are in a perfect spot for holidaying, honeymooning or business travel. Take a wander up the road to Sandwick and visit the well stocked licensed grocery store and bakery, just around the corner you’ll find the swimming pool with jacuzzi and steam room.

There are coastal walks close by. The beautiful, sandy Cumlewick beach is out along the headland and worth the walk. Or take a wander down to the pebble beach in Hoswick. Stop by the Hoswick Visitors Centre for information/ gifts it has a seasonal cafe. www.shetlandheritageassociation.com. If your passion is knitting you can pick up beautiful yarns and traditional Fair Isle and contemporary garments at www.nielanell.com and Laurence Odie Knitwear.
The Orca Country Inn www.orcacountryinn.com has occasional dining at the weekends and fish and chip Fridays. Buy a treat from the popular honesty, cake cupboard on your way back to Da Peerie Hoose to enjoy with your complimentary hot chocolate, coffee, tea or herbal tea.
The Carnegie Village Hall across the road hosts events including various music and Folk Festival concerts, Farmer's markets etc there's always plenty to get involved in all year round.

Take a day trip to the island of Mousa, the ferry is close by. Visit the Iron Age broch, constructed by the Picts c. 100BC and still in excellent condition due to it’s location on a small island, inhabited only by sheep and birds. You can take the dusk trip to see the tiny storm petrels fly back into the broch after feeding at sea all day. (May to mid July). www.mousa.co.uk
There is ample off road parking for a larger vehicle or trailer if water sports are your thing, as well as space to store bikes and hiking gear. Shetland is a wonderful island for exploring and outdoor activities on both land and sea.

The cottage is on the main bus route between Sumburgh airport and Lerwick so it is not necessary to have a car. Car hire is readily available and is advisable if you plan to tour. Local bus services are good but can be limiting if you want to really explore Shetland. It’s a great base to explore these beautiful islands. From the spectacular sandy beaches of the South Mainland to Hermaness in Unst, the most Northerly point in the British Isles.
